[Discussion] Deposited check in wrong account. Might blow the cover on my engagement proposal! Help!

August 07, 2020 at 12:37AM

Not sure if this is the right sub, but I accidentally deposited a large check into a joint checking account between my girlfriend and I instead of my personal account. Normally this wouldn't be an issue–i would just transfer the money. But, this money is to be used to buy an engagement ring. It's a surprise, but she's smart enough to figure out what's going on if she sees the transaction history. I immediately called TD and they say there's no way to transfer the money without it appearing in our transaction history. So, as I contemplate excuses in case she sees it, I'm trying to also figure out strategies to prevent this outcome.

So far I've come up with deleting the TD app from her phone or using the card as much as possible so that the deposit gets pushed to the bottom of the history, which would make it less likely she'd see it. Not feeling great about either option.

Any ideas?
