Lil Nas X and Jane Fonda Are Gucci’s New Campaign Stars, and They’re Both Wearing the Coolest Sneakers

June 25, 2020 at 05:26PM

Lil Nas X and Jane Fonda star in Gucci’s Off the Grid campaign while posing on various tree houses. Off the Grid is the brand’s first sustainable collection from the Gucci Circular Lines initiative, which was created to support its vision for circular production. Why was the campaign shot in a tree house, you may be wondering? Well, Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele explained: “the treehouse and the simple way of life it represents becomes a powerful metaphor for the desire to escape conventional life and enjoy the experience of living more Off The Grid.” The campaign, which was shot by director Harmony Korine, also includes singer King Princess, actor Miyavi, and environmentalist David de Rothschild.

Gucci Off the Grid was designed for those mindful of their environmental impact. The collection uses recycled, organic, bio-based, and sustainably sourced materials, including ECONYL, which is a regenerated nylon made from nylon offcuts and pre- and postconsumer waste. The collection includes genderless luggage, accessories, footwear, and ready-to-wear.

“Sustainability – at all levels – involves fostering respect: respect for the people we share our planet with as well as for the environment. If we lighten our environmental footprint we can explore the world with greater freedom – the freedom to follow our dreams, with curiosity, openness and joy,” the brand’s press release said. Keep reading to see the whole campaign and shop some of our favorites from the collection.

Cardi B and Kulture Have Mommy-and-Me Burberry Outfits, and Yes, Velcro Sneakers Are Involved

June 25, 2020 at 04:10PM

Cardi B and her daughter, Kulture, got all decked out in Burberry outfits for a mini sunset shoot. Man, I’ll tell you, if my mom had dressed me in this luxury look rather than the sage-colored leggings and jelly shoes I pretty much sported every single day, I’d be singing her praise right now. So yes, I do hope Kulture grows up to appreciate this mommy-and-me outfit. Kulture and Cardi both wore pleated Burberry skirts, the difference being the price tag, of course (Kulture’s retails for just below $200, while Cardi’s rings in at a cool $990). While Cardi accessorized her look with a checked Burberry beret affixed with statement pins – it’s no longer available, but perhaps it’s vintage – Kulture was her tomboy counterpart in a miniature baseball cap. Cue the awws.

I’m also team Kulture in the sense that I’d absolutely opt for velcro Burberry sneakers over tall, white pumps, but then again, walking in heels comes easily to Cardi. Cardi also posted a video in the same outfit where she spoke to her followers: “How you guys doing today? Mad? Hurt? Well, have a good day! Bye!” she said, addressing the racial injustice and tumultuous political climate our world is facing. Cardi sent out a subtle message: dressing up in extra, matchy-matchy outfits with your daughter never hurts and can be a fun way to lighten the mood, but we also must acknowledge the real world around us. Today, Cardi and Kulture just happened to do it in Burberry.
